Social Class
In Persepolis I have noticed how there is a definite difference in social classes. Marji's family has money, they are wealthy. They have a maid and her father drives a Cadillac. The maid is talking to a boy that lives next door, but the boy doesn't know that she is the family's maid. When he finds out he doesn't want anything to do with her anymore. This made me think: how often do people change how they feel because of social class? I don't think that it is right. Feelings don't change because of how much money someone has or doesn't. Though you may force them to change because you are scared of change. I know there is no way of stopping the segregation of social class; there will always be people that have more money than someone else, but think of all the things you could learn from that person that may be less fortunate than you. You have had struggles and they have too, you can always learn from someone and benefit from their mistakes. Social class does have a large impact on someones life, but deep down it doesn't change who they are.

pErSePoLiS
So we just started reading Persepolis for college lit. I have never read a graphic novel before, but i love reading the comics in the newspaper! I really like it so far and it is fun to read. I like looking at the pictures, and it is nice because it can be a fast read if you want it to, or if you take time to really look at the pictures it can make it more interesting. I like that you can also see what the characters look like and have the image in your head. although, sometimes imagining the characters is half the fun! i am really looking forward to reading more of this book and seeing what happens during the revolution.

WAR.
Well, since my last blog was on war, it got me thinking about the different reasons countries have wars with other countries or people have wars with other people, or even with themselves. I'm not one to say that violence is the answer. I think that some authority needs to be shown, but I don't think that killing people gets you anywhere. I think fear is one of the biggest reasons countries go to war. Fear of being taken over, fear of another country being better then themselves. Fear of not having control. But I think people fight or "go to war" because of jealousy. You always want what you can't have and if someone has something you want you will fight over it. It's like when little kids are playing with toys, and one gets a new toy. All of a sudden the other kids want to play with the new toy. It is out of jealousy, spite, that those other kids want to play with that new toy. It may not be any better than the toys they now have, but it is something they don't have. Which makes it better. I don't think fighting really gets you anywhere. Military should be for protection, not for attacking other countries. War in my mind is just stupid. It kills people, not only our people, but innocent people from other countries too. Talk it out. Make friends with other countries, try to reason with them if you have a problem. Don't go blowing them up. What does that get you? A few more countries that are afraid of you, and a few more countries that are going to want the better toy, so they will find something better then what you have and then you will be in fear. All. Over. Again.
War Movies
The war movie I chose was Forrest Gump. I really have not seen many war movies but Rachel gave me the idea of this one, so I took it. :)
This movie takes place during Vietnam. Forrest Gump had some sort of disorder when he was a kid so he had some sweet leg braces. Eventually his legs got better and he could walk like a normal kid. His best friend Jenny plays a big part of his life in the movie. That is where the saying "Run Forrest, Run!" comes from.

I think the film is saying a lot of different things about war, but the main thing that pops into my head is if you set your mind to it you can do it. Forrest Gump does a lot of great things throughout the movie. He finds Jenny, multiple times, he wins ping pong championships, he makes it through the war alive, he wins awards for being in Vietnam, ad the list goes on and on. I think this movies intentions were to make war comical, more enjoyable for people, because they were at this time starting to see how bad war really was.
I think this movie shows more the positive side to war, as in Slaughterhouse-five it has more of the negative affects. I also think that this is about what war can do to a person, how it can affect their life. I think Slaughterhouse-five also has some of that in it.
I think she might like parts of the movie. But I think that it does not fully show what happens to people in war and it does make them look like they are men, not boys. Although, I think she would like Lu tenet Dan. He tells you how it is straight up.

Part of the group.
For the past three years I have been on the rarely known McFarland High School ski team. My freshman and sophomore years I only practiced with a few kids that I knew. I remember seeing big groups of kids at the races who were also on other, bigger teams as well as their high school teams, like Cascade and Tyrol. This year I joined the Cascade Ski Team along with doing my high school team. By the end of the season we were like a big famliy. We had spent weekends away with each other and numerous practices together. I think the fact that it was also so very chilly and we had to huddle may have made us a little closer. But being an "outsider" for two years and then finally feeling like part of the team really made me feel like I was part of the group: an "insider". I would consider a lot of the kids on the team some of my closer friends becase we have a common interest that we all love and we spent so much time together. None of them go to my school but when I do see them a sense of belonging comes in play.
