Fences

I really enjoyed reading Fences. I thought it had a good variety of conflict. A main point seemed to be parenting throughout the book. I think Troy had good intentions with Cory but at times was a little too harsh with him. I know that Troy wanted the best for Cory and thought that having a job would be better than playing sports. I'm not sure if that was really the best choice for Cory or for Troy. Some part of me feels that Troy was afraid of Cory surpassing him in his athletic career. He probably did want Cory to have a good job and be able to provide for himself but I think he might have been being a little selfish by not letting Cory play sports because of his fear of him becoming better than him.
I think that if I am ever a parent I would try to give more advide then force my kids to do something. They would need to learn some things on their own. As long as I had told them how I felt about the situationa and they knew my feelings toward it that would be good enough. I think guidance would work better than deciding their life for them.

Fences

I enjoyed the scene presentations in class the past two days. It really helps to picture what the scene could have looked like, and it is also is a fun way to discuss what we are reading in class. In act two, scene one Troy tells Rose that he is going to be a father to another woman. Rose obviously in not happy about the news, I dont't think anyone would be in her case. I know if i were in her situation i would want out right away. but it is not that easy for her because she has to think about how much Troy impacts her life. He is the main income in their family, she has spent the last 18 years being loyal to him when she has also seen things she wants but knows she can't have. I feel bad for Rose, and for Cory. Rose is not put in a very diffucult position: stay with the man you have been married to for the past 18 years and have been loyal to, or leave him and make a new life on your own, something not easy for a black women in this time. Cory is also being forced to work instead of play football because of his dad, but now he finds out that his dad was with another women. You can tell that he will want to stick with his mother on this one since she is the one always supporting him, but he has to remember that his father is hte main provider in the family and he is already on strike two. What do you think Rose should do?

College LIt

So far I am really enjoying this class. I have liked most of the things we have been reading and I am really enjoying what we are doing with the college students. I am reading The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. It is a pretty good book. Sherman Alexie has a unique writing style thats keeps the book flowing nicely. I really like that it has illustrations throughout the book. It helps get across what the writer is feeling. I like the assignments that we also are doing for this "class." They are all very different and the change is nice. I am really looking forward to this class!

Interests

I am interested in a variety of things but one main interest in my life is horses. I have been riding since I was nine. I do not have a horse of my own but I leased one for three years. I work at a barn and in return get free riding lessons. They really are not lessons, basically me just exercising the horses and getting a little training in. I also enjoy many sports. I play soccer and am on the Cascade Ski Team. I used to dive but this was my last year. I love watching hocey, prefferably mens. I love being outside. I live on a small farm. My family raises chickens and turkeys. I have two dogs and two cats. I like fishing and hunting. I also enjoy four wheeling. I love country music. I would like to find a career involving horses, but that may not be the easiest. If that does not work out I am thinking of being an elementary school teacher. I would like to live in Montana and have horses of my own someday.
